Canyon Runner Sportfishing

June 1, 2020:
The Canyon Runner fleet has been tearing it up, down and sideways in the Lindenkohl. Captains Deane Lambros and Mike Zajac had a half-dozen bluefin by 8 a.m. and another six by noon. Then it was a mix of yellowfin and a rare-but-there longfin, ending the trip with a total of 39 tuna. "More to come," assured principal Adam Larossa.

"The day and night chunk is on," exhorted Adam from the Canyon Runner fleet, noting that the Hudson is producing yellowfin and longfin in addition to swordfish. Before the blow, Capt. Deane Lambros put the McQuire charter into the yellowfin, with 18 caught on the troll, along with five mahi. "Didn't even bother to chunk," added Adam.

News earlier in the week from Adam with the Canyon Runner was that the Hudson Canyon received a huge shot of good water, with the yellowfin and bigeye responding accordingly. Capt. Charlie and crew went 7 for 10 on yellowfin, and later found out that a couple of boats that were out there boxed eight bigeye between them. There will be a "First Reponders" overnighter September 12-13, and Adam urges anyone that knows a first responder who would be interested in this free trip to contact the boat asap as the spots are sure to be quickly filled.

Both the 48' Viking and 60' Ritchie Howell in the Canyon Runner fleet are taking full advantage of the torrid bluefin bite. A half-day Ritchie run saw 55 bluefin brought boat side, with 30 in 2-12 hours vanquished on the Viking. A Melton Cherry Jet trolled at 4 a.m. resulted in a 180-pound swordfish, with a flat line troll with a ballyhoo being the end game for an 84-inch mako.

The Canyon Runner has a Javan Rhino-rare FridaySaturday overnight open boat trip scheduled on the 48 Viking for July 19-20. Three spots available for this all-inclusive (counting the tip) offshore safari. Call for details. Meanwhile, it continues a wild rodeo in the canyons. The Mike Earle charter from Middletown boxed 10 yellowfin and released 15 others, with a pair of white marlin also freed. An open boat trip saw 38 yellowfin caught, with eight hitting the ice, to be joined by a 170-pound Zorro.
