Those who purchased advanced tickets for this weekend's cancelled Saltwater Fishing Expo in Edison, NJ will be refunded within a week according to representatives of the NMMA.

As a result of the evolving coronavirus outbreak in the tri-state region and new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) has canceled the Progressive Insurance Saltwater Fishing Expo in Edison, New Jersey on March 13-15, 2020.

“While the decision to cancel the Saltwater Fishing Expo comes at a time of great uncertainty, we believe this is the most prudent course of action to help protect our staff, members, exhibitors and attendees,” NMMA president Frank Hugelmeyer said in a statement on Wednesday afternoon.

Jennifer Thompson, NMMA Senior Vice President of Boat and Sport Shows, said the decision to cancel the Saltwater Fishing Expo didn’t come easy, but cited the health and wellbeing of all those involved in the show as a top priority at NMMA. “We have been in communication with our exhibitors and partners and thank them for their understanding during this difficult situation,” Thompson said.

In an online statement the Saltwater Fishing Expo announced that all advanced ticket purchasers will be refunded within a week.

On Thursday, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy recommended the cancellation of large public gatherings including concerts and sporting events of more than 250 people "Today, based on guidance we have received from the Commissioner of Health, we are recommending the cancellation of all public gatherings throughout New Jersey of more than 250 individuals, including concerts, sporting events, and parades," said Murphy.

That decision, along with other ensuing state and federal edicts aimed at stemming the spread of the Coronavirus, has led to the cancellation of numerous shows and events in the Tri-State region. The next events where The Fisherman Magazine was slated to have a major presence in the Garden State was the Wildwood Fishing and Boating Expo slated for April 4-5, followed by the Shark River Surf Anglers annual opening day kids trout tournament at Spring Lake on April 11 - both of these events have also been cancelled due to the Coronavirus.
