Fall Trout Stocking In Masachusetts Underway

Fall trout stocking begins each fall around mid-September. This year, the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife plans to stock close to 60,000 rainbow trout that are 12 inches or longer and at least 4,000 brown trout about 9-plus inches long in nearly 140 locations across Massachusetts from the western most edge of the state on out to Cape Cod. This late-season stocking provides not only a great opportunity for anglers to tangle with a wily trout right now, but also boosts the winter fishing opportunities both through the ice as well in water bodies which remain ice-free throughout all but the coldest of winters.

This fall, the stocking report will only be updated once per week online at https://www.mass.gov/service-details/trout-stocking-report. Please practice social distancing and be sure to keep at least 6 feet away from others while fishing. Also, if you haven’t done so already, don’t forget to buy your fishing license before hitting the water!
