The Atlantic Beach Rod & Gun Club, one of Long Island’s oldest fishing clubs dating back to the late 1950s, is giving back to the community in a unique way this season. The club has partnered with the Captain Lou Fleet in Freeport to provide a private half-day fishing charter for participants in the Town of Hempstead’s Camp Anchor program on June 19.
Fully funded by the club, the trip will welcome more than 40 campers with learning and developmental disabilities, along with their parents and guests, aboard the Captain Lou VII for a bay fluke fishing excursion. Camp Anchor provides recreational opportunities for youth and adults with special needs throughout the Town of Hempstead.
Members of the Atlantic Beach Rod & Gun Club will be onboard to assist anglers, share their passion for fishing, and help create a memorable day on the water. Club officials hope the event not only provides a fun experience for participants, but also inspires a new generation of Long Island anglers.
