On August 22, Veteran’s organization MA Deuce Deuce (MA 22) will host the largest free fishing event for veterans along the Jersey Shore called Operation: Hook It; 300 Veteran Fisherman Hookin’ Gills for Veteran Suicide Awareness. During the COVID- 19 pandemic, veterans are shut in and MA 22 is helping to fight this battle by recruiting enough volunteers with boats to take 300 veterans fishing. Veterans can fish in small groups or be teamed with a boat captain/crew. There is no big prize money to win. It is a day to fish and enjoy a friendly competition among veterans to win rod and reel prizes, along with the needed camaraderie of other veterans.
Dennis Addesso, President MA 22 stated; “The big payday for this type of sportfishing event is showing support to our veterans and bringing awareness to the public about veteran suicide.”
“Us older veterans understand what our younger men and women are going through and support this event,” Greg Kucharewski, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 12.
