In the eleventh hour of finalizing this issue, word came down that Frank Daignault, author of countless articles on surfcasting in The Fisherman and many other magazines, plus eight books on surfcasting, passed away at his home, surrounded by family, at the age of 87. Frank was a steward of the sport of surfcasting and legend in his own time, quite literally the voice of a generation of surfcasters who raised his family on the beach and was fascinated by all things related to striped bass. On behalf of the entire Fisherman family, our thoughts are with Joyce, his wife of 67 years, his four children, and all of their grandchildren. We will cover Frank’s legacy in greater detail in a forthcoming issue of The Fisherman, but it’s safe to say that surfcasting will never be quite the same without Frank.
