The 14th annual Bi-State Shad Fishing Contest will run from April 24-17 with thousands of dollars in cash and prizes being awarded, with payouts to 10 places for the overall biggest shad and payouts to the top four fish for each day of the contest, plus bonus prizes.
“I started the Bi-State Shad Fishing Contest in 2011 after the Easton Shad tournament ceased operations,” said Bi-State Shad Fishing Contest founder Eric Fistler, calling this event “a fun-filled family event, with something for everyone.”
Along with the top 10 payout and four daily prizes, Fistler said there are two senior bonus prizes, a veterans bonus prize, a top three women’s bonus prizes, and top five kids bonus prizes in two age groups, age 11 and under and ages 12 to 15.
“Prize amounts are determined by entry fees and sponsorship fees,” said Fistler, adding “Pending approval, an 18-foot Yamaha G3 Boat, with a 90/65 Jet drive, and Bear Trailer, will be given away.” The tournament weigh station is located at the Phillipsburg Boat Launch, directly behind Jimmies Hot Dog 7 Union Square Phillipsburg, NJ and is open daily during the contest from 8:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m.
Fishing takes place anywhere on the Delaware River, though tributaries are off-limits. A Delaware River “big money” tradition, entry is $45 for adults 16 and over and $25 for 15 years of age and under. All registrants will receive a Bi-State Shad Fishing Contest t-shirt, but keep in mind that registrations must be in by 8 a.m. on April 24, 2025.
