While many anglers see summer flounder management as one big fiasco, the Brigantine Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) at Post 6964 have set their Flounder Fiasco fishing tournament from June 25-27 as reason to celebrate.
Fish around the clock from Friday through Sunday, for summer flounder or kingfish, by boat or by beach. Prizes will be awarded for total weight of three fish within each class, with first, second and third place awards in divisions for both surf and boat.
Entry fee is $60 per boat (up to four anglers) and $30 per surfcaster for the beach division; option Calcuttas are $25 per boat and $10 for individuals, and whoever catches the single biggest fish in each division will take the cash.
“If you are going to do the Calcutta you are going to have to get me the cash,” said Andy Grossman at Riptide Bait and Tackle in Brigantine where all tournament weigh-ins will take place. “You can give it to me that weekend but you must let me know prior to the tournament start date that want to be in the Calcutta,” Grossman added.
Tournament boundaries for boaters are from Great Egg Inlet to Barnegat Inlet, but tournament crews must leave from either Brigantine Inlet or Absecon Inlet. Fishing begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday the 25th and ends at 11:45 a.m. on the 27th. Final day to sign up for the Flounder Fiasco is Thursday, June 24. A tournament banquet will be held at 1 p.m. that Sunday at VFW Post 6964 at 121 31st Street in Brigantine.
Sign up in person at Riptide Bait and Tackle or at the Brigantine VFW post. You can also sign up online at beachedcarsofbrigantine.com/form.html and pay by credit card.
