Do you go fishing along the Atlantic coast from North Carolina to Maine? Has a predator taken your fish while fighting it on the end of the line? If so, then a team from the University of Massachusetts Amherst is looking to connect!
When a predator (think shark) partially or wholly consumes an angler’s catch before it is landed, it is called depredation. In fact, the increasing challenge of shark depredation in some areas along the Atlantic Coast has become so great that there is a piece of federal legislation (Supporting the Health of Aquatic systems through Research, Knowledge and Enhanced Dialogue, aka the SHARKED Act) has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives.
If this is something you’ve experienced as a coastal angler, the team from the University of Massachusetts Amherst would like to hear from you.
Use your camera phone and point to the QR code shown in the image, or go directly to the survey link to participate in this survey on depredation. As an incentive participants qualify to win a Patagonia Guidewater Backpack valued at $299.
