The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education (CARE) program has a slew of their popular “Learn to Fish” classes and events this month and they are strategically placed so that everyone can find one close to home. Designed to introduce newcomers to the sport and foster environmental stewardship, these educational opportunities provide everything needed for a successful day on the water.
CARE fishing events cater to adults ages 16 and up, as well as families with children ages 6 and older. To make fishing accessible to everyone, the program provides all necessary loaner fishing equipment, fresh bait, and expert instruction on-site at no cost to participants.
Registration is mandatory for all upcoming July dates. To sign up, every participant must have a Conservation Identification Number (CID), which can be obtained by creating an account in the state’s Online Licensing System. Anglers ages 16 and older are required to hold a valid Connecticut fishing license. Children ages 15 and below must also obtain a free CID before registering, and they have the option to register for a free Youth Fishing Passport. Space is limited for these summer sessions, so prospective anglers are encouraged to secure their registration early.
