The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education (CARE) program advances its year-round schedule of “Learn to Fish” classes and events through summer’s official first month with a slew of dates across the state. Designed to introduce newcomers to the sport and foster environmental stewardship, these educational opportunities provide everything needed for a successful day on the water.
CARE fishing events cater to adults ages 16 and up, as well as families with children ages 6 and older. To make fishing accessible to everyone, the program provides all necessary loaner fishing equipment, fresh bait, and expert instruction on-site at no cost to participants.
Registration is mandatory for all upcoming June dates. To sign up, every participant must have a Conservation Identification Number (CID), which can be obtained by creating an account in the state’s Online Licensing System. Anglers ages 16 and older are required to hold a valid Connecticut fishing license. Children ages 15 and below must also obtain a free CID before registering, and they have the option to register for a FREE YOUth Fishing Passport. Space is limited for these June sessions, so prospective anglers are encouraged to secure their registration early.
