Connecticut Polls Anglers About Catch & Release Trout Season

The Connecticut Fish and Wildlife wants your input. Five years after the implementation of Connecticut Public Act 21-12, which established a year-round open season for trout fishing, the Fisheries Division is calling on local anglers to share their feedback through a brief, anonymous questionnaire.

By gathering angler preferences and desires back in 2021, the Fisheries Division established a default statewide regulation. This rule requires mandatory catch-and-release for trout from March 1 until the second Saturday of April, a segment of the season that saw all trout-stocked waters closed to fishing of any kind. Having now reached a five-year point under this framework, the State is once again checking in with the angling community to evaluate how these rules are working and to gauge current opinions on the spring catch-and-release window.

Anglers are highly encouraged to participate and make their voices heard. The feedback collected is vital for shaping the future of Connecticut’s trout season and how it will be managed going forward. Best of all, this questionnaire is quick and anonymous, taking under two minutes to complete. You can share your opinions and take the survey today by visiting this questionnaire link.

Please note that time is limited to submit your responses, as the survey is expected to close on June 18, so anglers are urged to submit their input as soon as possible.
