Enjoy The Natural Beauty Of Sedge Island

Have an artistic flare?  Ever wondered what it’s like hanging out at the Sedge Island Natural Resource Education Center behind Island Beach State Park?

Join the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and its Division of Fish & Wildlife staff, along with local artists at the Sedge Island Natural Resource Education Center to learn about the importance of Barnegat Bay while getting inspired to create your own art.

All workshops listed below are for participants aged 18 and older, who are interested in learning the importance of New Jersey’s salt marshes through kayaking, clamming, fishing, and art!  Participants should be prepared to be outside most of the day.

Sketchbook Artistry Workshop – July 11-12

Salt Marsh Photography Experience – August 8-9

Salt Marsh Jewelry Workshop – August 22-23

Sedge Island Natural Resource Education Center, located in Barnegat Bay off Island Beach State Park, in New Jersey’s only Marine Conservation Zone offers residential environmental education programs to participants 12 years of age and older. A short 15-minute boat ride from the Sedge Dock at Island Beach State Park takes you to the island.

The renovated duck hunting lodge dates to over 100 years old, and is full of history of famous sportsman, historians and conservationists. Sedge Island continues to fuel memories as it is home to scientists, researchers, and explorers who wish to experience the “magic of sedge.”
