Fairfield County Kids Fishing Derby Set For September 25th

American Legion Post 202, serving Newtown and Brookfield, is proud to be a supporter of the first annual District 3 Children’s Fishing Derby. District 3 encompasses all towns in Fairfield County. The event is slated for Saturday, September 25th from 9 a.m. to noon at Great Hollow Lake in Monroe, CT.

The derby is open to all children 15 and under. Admission is free! You do not need to have a veteran family member to participate. Kids from all towns in Fairfield County are welcome. You must bring your own fishing gear.

Check-in is at the Great Hollow Lake Pavilion. Be sure to register and get a free chance to win a door prize! Younger children may have a parent/guardian/friend help them cast, but the child must reel in their own fish. Fish should be brought to the measuring table as soon as caught; in case of a tie, the fish entered first will break the tie. Only two trout per angler may be kept in accordance with state rules. Do not return trout to lake. All other species may be released.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in each of the three age groups: five and under, ages 6 to 10 and ages 11 to 15. In addition, an award will be given for the largest fish (by length) entered for the day. Ties will be broken the same way, the fish entered first will take the prize.
