Final Stages of the Fisherman’s Dream Boat Challenge

The Fisherman’s Dream Boat Fishing Challenge is a season long, multi-species, region wide fishing contest where Fisherman Magazine subscribers compete to win the most amazing prizes of any contest!

The challenge is a points-based system where whoever accumulates the highest total weigh-in score during the 2019 season (May 1, 2019 – November 30, 2019) will win the incredible 23-foot Steiger Craft Boat, complete with an Evinrude ETEC G2 250 HP outboard, Lowrance electronics, Navionics charts, Engel cooler, 2 gallons of Techron and a fish mount from Global Fish Mount.

The premise is simple: accumulate the most total points by catching the heaviest fish across a field of eight eligible species (weakfish, porgy/scup, fluke, sea robin, mahi mahi, bluefish, black sea bass and blackfish/tautog) and you can win. Contestants may submit as many entries in excess of the minimum weight as they wish. However, only the heaviest one (1) entry per species category will be entered and tallied for points. This means that you can enter a heavier fish in a given species and move up the leader board, but you cannot hold multiple spots within any single species. Points will be awarded to each of the top 10 entries with the heaviest fish in each species: 10 points goes to the heaviest fish in each of eight categories, 9 points for second, all the way to a single point for the 10th heaviest fish in that division. The key to winning the Grand Prize in 2019 is not only to land the heaviest fish, but to do so across as many of the eligible species as possible. It is going to take a well-rounded and talented angler to take home the Grand Prize in 2019.

As a subscriber, you’ve only got a few more days to land a spot on the leader board and move one step closer to winning the grand prize as the challenge ends on November 30. As I type this, things seem rather locked-in for the big winner, but truly anything can happen in the coming weeks. Last year’s runner-up, Garrett Weir, currently holds a 17-point lead over second-place angler, Frank Difede. Six points back stands last year’s winner, Sam Dibner. (Keep in mind that past grand prize winners are not eligible to repeat at the top spot, but they are eligible for the other prizes.)

We are going to have the complete rundown on the winner in the January 2020 issue, and there’s still a good amount of time left to register a fish and win, and plenty of additional prizes. In fact, whether you accumulate the most points, catch the largest of species or win the fish of the month, The Fisherman offers a slew of outstanding prizes to be won this year.

This year’s Grand Prize for the angler who accumulates the most points is an awesome new Steiger Craft 23 Miami boat with an Evinrude Etec G2 250 HP Outboard Motor; Lowrance electronics, 2 gallons of Techtron, Navionics Charts, an Engel EN80 Cooler; and a fish mount from Global Fish Mounts of one of the fish entered.

The angler with the second-most total points wins a 3-night stay for the winner and one guest at the Zancudo Lodge in beautiful Costa Rica. The prize consists of one standard double-occupancy accommodation, standard meals and fishing. Air transportation, fishing license, fees, taxes, phone calls, and any other incidental expenses are not included and are the winner’s responsibility.

The third prize winner will receive one Sea Eagle SUPCAT™ Package.

Once again we are also awarding prizes for the heaviest fish entered in each of the eight eligible species. This year’s “Largest of Species” winners will each receive Shimano Saragosa 5000 reel; one St. Croix Mojo Inshore rod; a fish mount from Global Fish Mounts of the fish entered.

Fish of the month winners will receive a pair of sunglasses from Unsinkable Polarized Sunglasses and a fillet knife from Dexter Russell. Each of the 80 finalists on the leader board at the conclusion of the challenge in November will also be rewarded a special prize package provided by our sponsors including Owner and Tsunami.

And last but most certainly not least, we also have the king salmon prize. At the conclusion of this year’s contest, the subscriber who enters the heaviest king salmon will win a pair of sunglasses from Unsinkable Polarized Sunglasses. Remember that king salmon entries yield no points toward the Dream Boat. The minimum weight requirement for entry is 20 pounds, fish must be caught on Lake Ontario and weighed on an official entry form (weigh station locations around Lake Ontario are limited).
