Fishing For The Mission 22 Canal Striper Derby July 29 – 31

If you love fishing the Canal, if you love friendly competition and if you love doing it for a great cause then you really need to sign up for the Fishing for the Mission 22 Canal Striper Derby this month. This three-day event will be run in a catch-video-release format with the largest fish winning the grand prize; an ODM rod custom wrapped by gw customs, with a top-end reel donated by Canal Bait and Tackle. The youth striper rod/reel combo was donated by Maco’s Bait and Tackle and the prize for the largest bluefish comes courtesy of Fish Net Charters.

Anglers must fish from the shore of the Cape Cod Canal for their fish to be eligible. The entry fee is $50 which includes a tournament t-shirt and a ticket to the awards ceremony/pig roast (held at VFW 5988, 180 Shore Rd, in Buzzards Bay). The Wareham-based Lucky Goat Brewery will be brewing a special edition beer for the event as well, called Mission 22 Pale Ale.

The tournament it being put on Skelton’s Lure Company, powered by Wu Baits with all of the proceeds going to benefit the Mission 22 charity. Mission 22 aims to help veterans cope with returning from active duty and reintegrating into everyday life. Harold Skelton is the host of the event and is running the tournament in honor of his friend and fellow veteran, Cliff.
