If you’re looking to do a little bit of competitive fluking at the Jersey Shore this weekend, you’ve got five different tournaments to choose from in the Monmouth and Central Jersey regions.
Starting from the north, the Raritan Bay Anglers Club will host their 34th Annual Fluke Tournament on Saturday July 20, with the Captains meeting on Thursday, July 18 at the Moose Lodge at 343-381 Talmadge Road in Edison. In the Manasquan Inlet area you have two tournaments in which to participate on Saturday. First, the 29th Annual Point Pleasant Elks Fluke Tournament held in memory of John Veprek is being held. The captain’s meeting is Friday, July 19 at the Point Pleasant Elks Lodge at 820 Arnold Avenue in Point. The Jersey Coast Shark Anglers (JCSA) are also hosting their annual Fluke Fever Tournament on Saturday. The Captains meeting will be held at club headquarters at 385 Herbertsville Road in Brick on Friday the 19th at 6:30 p.m. with door prizes and refreshments. In Waretown, Ocean County, the Holiday Beach Club will present their annual fluke tournament this Saturday to benefits Just Believe, Inc. Divisions for both kayak and boat, with weigh-ins from 3 to 6 p.m. at Creekside Outfitters. The Captains meeting will be held on Friday at 7 p.m. at the club headquarters at 26 Shore Drive (end of Lighthouse Drive on the bay) in Waretown with food and drinks available. Across the bay on Long Beach Island, VFW 3729 in Beach Haven will host their annual Fluke-A-Thon this Saturday, July 20. Entry is $100 per boat with the Captains meeting on Friday, July 19 from 5 to 9 p.m. at 11W Winifred Street (79th Street) in Beach Haven. Don’t forget, if you’re a subscriber to The Fisherman Magazine and end up with a tournament fluke of 7 pounds or better, be sure to bring that fish over to a participating Dream Boat Fishing Challenge weigh station for entry; in addition to whatever winnings you take home this weekend it could potentially help put you into a new Steiger at the end of The Fisherman’s tournament season too.
