Forked River Tuna Club To Host Ladies’ Catch Of The Day

With great anticipation, the Women’s Club of the Forked River Tuna Club (FRTC) announces the return of its annual Ladies’ Catch of the Day Fishing Tournament on Saturday, July 10.  As with many other events, it was necessary to cancel last year’s tournament due to COVID-19, but organizers believe this year will be a reunion of long time anglers, friends and FRTC members.

The tournament is open to woman and Mermaids (girls age 12 or under).  The entry fee for adults is $30 while the Mermaids fish free.  The adult categories are fluke and junk fish (skate and/or sea robin), while the Mermaids will fish for fluke and/or crabs.  Mermaids must be chaperoned by an adult who is not required to be a registered angler.

The angler’s meeting will be held Friday, July 9 at the club headquarters at 18 Bay Avenue in Forked River, east of Route 9.  The club doors and kitchen open at 6:30 p.m., the tournament registration runs from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Fishing and crabbing begins on Saturday at 7 a.m. with all weigh-ins to be completed no later than 4 p.m. at FRTC headquarters.  An awards picnic follows at 5 p.m.

A portion of the proceeds from the Ladies’ Catch of the Day Fishing Tournament will benefit the FRTC Scholarship Fund and local Conservation Education programs.  For tournament rules and registration form go to forkedrivertunaclub.com or call 609-693-5353.
