FRABILL CRAWLER CAN - The Fisherman

FRABILL CRAWLER CAN

A trusted name in the fishing game since 1938, Frabill has just introduced their new Crawler Can, which takes worm management for freshwater and saltwater anglers to a whole new level.

Time was, catching a stringer of bass, trout, catfish or panfish involved little more than a bamboo stick with a hook, line, sinker, or bobber and a coffee tin filled with lively crawling critters like earthworms, angle worms, night crawlers, etc. Hungry fish seemed to gobble ‘em up like candy. All was good, until the bait fried, dried and died. Along came Styrofoam, which offered a hint of insulation, but when you accidently stepped on the container, the flimsy walls collapsed and lid cracked like a peanut shell. And even before, water had likely seeped in and created an icky stew of unusable bait on the bottom of the container.

Well, say goodbye to the cream-of-crawler and whipped-worm nightmare that died a horrible death in the bottom of that old coffee can or Styrofoam cup, because Frabill’s new Crawler Can keeps your bait cool and protected, all the way from the bait shop to your favorite lake, stream or back-bay hideaway. Frabill Pro Staffer, product designer and guide Tom Neustrom has always been serious about worm care. Going into battle with the kind of night crawlers that jump out of your hand is Tom’s #1 priority when looking to bend the rods. According to Tom, “I store large quantities of super-crawlers in my Frabill Habitat system. Then, before heading out in the morning, I’ll grab a couple Crawler Cans. Fill one side with ice, the other side with two or three dozen crawlers. They stay extra cool and watertight inside these insulated containers. And they’re sweet for storing other baits, too.”

Sporting dual, top and top and bottom bait compartments, each sealed with a watertight quarter-turn lid, the Frabill Crawler Can chills out the occupants and can store two different types of baits within a single can; crawlers in one side and leeches in the other; ice on one side, worms in the other; even micro baits such as waxworms and maggots can hitch a ride. Insulated with an extra-thick foam liner and tough watertight screw-lids, this handy little container offers intensive-care-unit level bait storage in a nearly indestructible package. It even offers a convenient carrying handle for ease in transport both to and from the boat and when out on the water.

GOOD FOR SALTWATER, TOO
Saltwater anglers can get in on the party too and there’s no reason why you couldn’t store a dozen or more sandworms or bloodworms in the Frabill Crawler Can and take them out for a day of flounder pounding or drifting for stripers or weakfish. You can even dedicate one can for each type of bait and the good news is that the low-profile containers stow easily onboard and are sturdy enough to withstand some bouncing around when underway without damage or spilling their contents onto the deck. The low profile design will enable you to take a few of these onboard, even if you have a 16-foot tin boat, so you will always have a fresh and lively supply of bait.

What sets the Frabill Crawler Can from competitive designs are the dual internal compartments, one on top and one on the bottom, both of which are water-tight and sealed with a quarter-turn lid. The sides are foam-lined and insulated, so if you need your worms to stay cool, simply put ice on the bottom and the worms on top. Or in a pinch, you can put two different types of bait in the upper and lower stations. The Frabill #4507 Crawler Can is constructed of durable plastic and the gasketed water tight top lid prevents water from leaking out. The small size of the Crawler Can makes for easy transport and storage. The bright yellow plastic lid and bottom section will also act as a welcome visual aid so that you won’t leave your bait can cooking in the back of the car when you are prepping your trip in the wee hours of the morning or leave it on the boat at the end of the day when it’s time to head home. With an MSRP of only $15.99, Frabill’s new Crawler Can won’t set you back a lot of green to insure that your bait stays lively longer.
