Green Harbor Tuna Club 52nd Annual Giant Bluefin Tuna Tournament - The Fisherman

Green Harbor Tuna Club 52nd Annual Giant Bluefin Tuna Tournament

The Green Harbor Tuna Club, the oldest tuna club on the Massachusetts South Shore was founded in 1970 in Marshfield, MA to promote recreational fishing for bluefin tuna and not long after the club was formed, they started their annual giant bluefin tuna tournament. In 2022 the fishing during the event did not disappoint and there were almost 50 boats entered. This year they anticipate even more boats. There will only be one cash prize awarded, and that will go to the captain of the boat who brings in the heaviest bluefin tuna. The fishing days are August 31 and September 3rd and 4th, with an awards banquet to follow on September 4 beginning at 5:30 p.m. The entry fee is $250 (This includes GHTC Membership and a captain’s bucket filled with loot. You must be present to get the bucket. You DO NOT need to be present to sign-up for tournament or enter Calcuttas). And your entry must be completed by August 30 at 6 p.m. Entrants may fish multiple tournaments and fish do not need to be weighed at an official weigh station, you ‘buyer’s slip’ will determine the official weight of your catch, so do not gut your fish! All slips must be submitted by September 4 at 5:30 p.m. To sign up please email [email protected] or call Debbie at 781-727-3667 or Frank at 781-727-3667.

This year’s event is extremely personal to the members of The Green Harbor Tuna Club because the mission is raising money and awareness for the Dion Family. Their beautiful family is dealing with the diagnosis of a rare form of muscular dystrophy for two of their children. Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy type 2C is a rapidly progressive muscle wasting disease, caused by genetic mutations with NO CURE. They have established The Dion Foundation (www.thedionfund.org) to raise awareness, fund research and to help find a treatment for this fatal disease. Your entry fee will help them in their quest to find a cure.
