At the beginning of August, two Jersey Shore fluke tournaments were contested with both the Jersey Coast Anglers Association (JCAA) Heavy Hitters Fluke Tournament as well as the Community Fire Company Fluke Masters Tournament.
The JCAA Heavy Hitters began on August 1 and ran through August 4, and saw tough fluking on a statewide basis. Newton’s Kevin Cole was the big winner with a 5.82-pound fluke that he weighed in at Atlantic Bait and Tackle, earning him a Yamaha 9.9-horsepower four-stroke engine and cash for his first place fish. He also swept the fluke calcuttas. Adam Schechter took the sea bass calcutta with a 2-pounder.
1st – Kevin Cole (5.82 lbs)
2nd – Adam Schechter (5 lbs)
3rd – Robert Pagiuco (4.86 lbs)
4th – Keith Scaglione (4.79 lbs, caught by Jon Lasser)
5th – Tom Lichnak (4.53 lbs)
In the Community Fire Company’s annual Fluke Masters Tournament on August 3, the top fish of the contest was a 7.25-pound fluke caught onboard Black Pearl captained by Daryl S. Peregrin. That team’s combined weight of five fish came in at 21.8 pounds good for the first place finish (photo).
Second place was the crew of Islander 3 captained by Kevin Staub with a combined five-fish weight of 20.92 pounds. Congratulations to Island 3’s crew for also donating their second place winnings back to the Community Fire Company. Rounding out the top three finishers was the crew of Shakin Sumthin captained by Robby Romano with a total weight of 20.74 pounds.
Next up for the Community Fire Company will be the Tog Masters Tournament sometime in November. We’ll have more details in The Fisherman about that tournament as they become available.
