The Hudson River Fishermen’s Association (HRFA) invites surfcasters to join the 5th Annual Bass & Blues Surfcasting Derby on Saturday, November 22 from 12 a.m. until noon. It’s shore fishing only – no boats, SUPs or kayaks – with two categories, striped bass and bluefish. Winners will be chosen by length, with any tie broken by the earliest entry.
This year there is no in-person registration at the beach; all anglers must register online. Tournament boundaries are any shoreline in Monmouth County. All anglers will receive a unique three-digit derby code at midnight to verify catches. Be sure to photograph your fish with your ruler and code clearly visible, then text your entry to 201-232-5988 with your name.
Following the event, there will be an awards ceremony and lunch served at D’Alessio’s Bagel Express at 949 NJ-36 in Leonardo starting at 12:30 p.m. You must be present at the luncheon to receive any prizes. If you have any questions or need help with selecting the right gear for the derby, contact Michael Sardinas at Masardinas@yahoo.com or 201-232-5988. For more information on HRFA go to thehrfa.org.
