IFISSH Courses Offered Online Through Rutgers Starting Feb. 16

Want to know how fisheries decisions are made?  Interested in getting more involved in the process as an advisor or council member?  If so, Rutgers University is holding their weekly IFISSH sessions once again this winter in the virtual realm.

Registration is now open for the 2021 Introductory Fisheries Science for Stakeholders (IFISSH) course offered through Rutgers Cooperative Extension.   The objective of this course is to educate stakeholders of New Jersey’s commercial and recreational marine fisheries so that they will better understand and make progress on issues impacting their industries, including the science, management, and responsible stewardship of fishery resources.

Class sessions will meet weekly on Tuesday evenings (6:30 – 9:00 p.m.) from February 16 through April 20. All classes will meet via Zoom webinar during the COVID-19 pandemic and will include a mixture of presentations with Q&A and open discussion periods. Additionally, as circumstances surrounding the pandemic allow, there will be two optional field trips during the summer of 2021.

There is a $25 program fee for this course and registration is open to all who are interested; register online by February 9.  Go to https://ocean.njaes.rutgers.edu/marine/IFISSH.html for the registration link and additional program details.  If you have any questions you can also contact Kelly Jurgensen (Administrative Assistant, Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Ocean County) at kjurgensen@co.ocean.nj.us or 732-349-1152.
