This Saturday, June 24, the Strathmere Fishing and Environmental Club (SFEC) and Whale Creek Marina will host their annual Jane Shetler and Debbe Starr SFEC Women’s Fishing Tournament. The contest is open to women and girls of all ages for a $10 registration fee, with children 16 and under free.
The tournament is open to all species of fish, excluding sharks, skate, sea robin, and oyster crackers. SEFC encourages all participants to follow all regulations for size and limits for eligible species.
Start time is 6 a.m. on Saturday, with scales open at Whale Creek Marina from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the top three places (women and children are in the same category) with an overall award given for the heaviest fish in the contest. Awards and light refreshments at 4 p.m. at the Strathmere Firehouse.
The tournament zone is back bay only from the 41st Street Bridge in Sea Isle City to the “old railroad bridge” at 52nd Street in Ocean City. Get details at Whale Creek Marina or visit the SEFC website at strathmerefishing.org.
