Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council Meets On Long Island

The Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council (MAFMC) will meet Tuesday, June 7 through Thursday, June 9 in Riverhead, NY. This meeting will be conducted as a hybrid meeting. Council members, other meeting participants, and members of the public will have the option to participate in person or virtually via Webex webinar.

The actual public meeting itself will be held at Atlantis Banquets & Events, Hyatt Place Long Island/East End at 431 East Main Street in Riverhead.  Council members, other meeting participants, and members of the public will have the option to participate in person at the Hyatt Place or via webinar which is accessible at MAFMC.org.

Of particular interest to coastal anglers, the MAFMC will review an Equity and Environmental Justice Strategy Presentation by Sharon Benjamin from NOAA Fisheries from 11:30 a.m. until noon on Tuesday, followed by a Summer Flounder Management Strategy Evaluation Update from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., and then final action on a Recreational Harvest Control Rule Framework / Addenda for Summer Flounder, Scup, Black Sea Bass from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

On Wednesday at 9 a.m. the MAFMC will take up discussion on Mackerel Rebuilding 2.0 Amendment with final action, with an update on shad and river herring at 1 p.m.  Thursday’s meeting of the MAFMC will consist primarily of various business including committee reports.
