New Jersey Marine Fisheries Council Meets November 2

Due to a scheduling conflict at the Galloway Township Branch of the Atlantic County Library, this week’s meeting of the New Jersey Marine Fisheries Council will be virtual only starting at 5 p.m.

According to New Jersey statute (Title 23 – Fish and Game, Wild Birds and Animals, Section 23:2B-5) the New Jersey Marine Fisheries Council is responsible for contributing to the preparation and revision of fisheries management plans, while advising the commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) on policies of the department and in the planning, development, and implementation of all departmental programs related to this act.

The state statute that governs the New Jersey Marine Fisheries Council also states that members of this volunteer management body hold periodic public hearings in regard to current issues affecting the operation of the marine fisheries program, recommending the convening of species related citizen panels where appropriate, while both studying and analyzing the economic, social and ecological data relating to the operation of the marine fisheries program.

New Jersey Marine Fisheries Council meetings are public meetings; anglers wishing to attend can call 609-748-2020 to confirm the meeting locations, or go online for meeting information to attend virtually.
