Join the New Jersey Division of Fish & Wildlife (Division) for an introductory Ice Fishing Seminar in Whippany on Saturday, November 16 from 9:30 a.m. until noon. As part of the Division’s R3 Fishing Program this seminar is strategically scheduled in November, and designed to provide an informative and welcoming environment to prepare you for ice fishing.
Anglers 18 years and older will be introduced to the sport of ice fishing by outdoor and ice fishing enthusiast David Alexander (www.natureintoaction.com), a lifelong educator, naturalist, and conservation biologist. This seminar will cover ice safety, staying warm and dry, targeting specific fish species, depth maps, ice fishing equipment, knots, bait selection and technique. Through lectures, demonstrations and hands-on components, you will learn the basics of ice fishing.
This seminar is a classroom-based lecture with hands-on learning components (there will not be a fishing component). While the workshop is free, you must have a Conservation ID# (CID#) to apply, which is the nine-digit number on your NJ Fishing or Hunting License. Complete the online registration application. Registration deadline is November 3 at noon. Only selected participants will be notified by November 5, 2024.
The event will be held at the Morris County Public Library in Whippany. For additional information email njfishingr3@dep.nj.gov or call 609-462-0743.
