The North Brookhaven Sport Fisherman Club has announced their upcoming monthly speakers for the winter and spring of 2023.
February 13th will be hosting Captain Joe Calandra. Captain Joe has been guiding for the Tanaku Lodge in Alaska’s southeast since 2005. Joe, a native of Long Island New York, brings his knowledge of chasing tuna, fluke and striped bass to the Alaska coast. Joe runs the 26-foot Osprey, powered by twin Yamaha engines. He has traveled and fished all over the globe and brings his fishing experience and personality to the Tanaku Lodge. “I first went to Tanaku Lodge in 1997 on my honeymoon. I was hooked on Tanaku almost as quickly as the halibut I caught. I returned several times and recommended the lodge to anyone interested in fishing Alaska. It’s funny how things work out” says the captain.
March 13th sees Captain John McMurray. He has been the owner and primary operator of One More Cast Charters. He runs trips on both the skiff and the Contenders every day the weather allows, from mid-April through December. Capt. McMurray was the meeting-specific Legislative Proxy at the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission for NY State Senator Todd Kaminsky through 2022 and is well-versed on the happenings of that Commission. Capt. McMurray will be speaking to us about the ASMFC decisions on inshore Fisheries and Local Tuna Fishing.
On April 10th Ross Squire, the President of the New York Conciliation for Recreational Fishing will be speaking for the club. He is also administrator of the 1@32 Facebook page. Ross is also an accomplished local surf angler and a consistent leader in the NYS Surf Club Contest. He will be speaking about what NYCRF is and what they do for local anglers.
