A few snapshots from Spring Lake from the opening day of the ’25 trout season.
The Shark River Surf Anglers (SRSA) hosted their annual Trout Contest for Kids at Spring Lake on the April 5th opener, alongside the American Legion Post 432’s opening day festivities at assisted by the Surf Kings Fishing Club. Big fish honors on the day went to 12-year-old Douglas Apsley of Brick (on the cover this week) who found a 7-pound, 4-ounce rainbow more than willing to jump on the spinner he was throwing while fishing alongside the Mimi VI crew.
Kudos to the volunteers who worked hard to create another outstanding kids event at Spring Lake, and big props to the youngsters who again fished hard in typical “opening day” conditions (i.e. rainy and overcast).
