I first got a look at the Relentless Knives lineup several ICAST shows ago, and right away, the technology behind these knives caught my attention. Since that introduction, I’ve been using the company’s 9-inch Curved Fillet Knife regularly on a mix of inshore species, and it’s become a welcome addition to my fish-cleaning setup. After several seasons of putting it to work, I’ve come to appreciate what this unique knife brings to the table.
What separates the Relentless knife from traditional fillet knives is its innovative Perpetual Edge Technology. Rather than relying on a conventional steel blade that requires frequent sharpening, the company utilizes an aerospace-grade titanium blade paired with a specialized carbide and diamond cutting edge. The concept is that the blade maintains its cutting ability through use, reducing the need for constant sharpening.
Another standout feature is the titanium construction. Anyone who regularly cleans fish in a saltwater environment knows how quickly corrosion can become an issue with conventional knives. The titanium blade is exceptionally resistant to rust, making it particularly appealing for anglers who spend considerable time around saltwater. At just 5.5 ounces, the knife is also surprisingly lightweight considering its overall size.
The 9-inch curved blade provides plenty of cutting length for working through larger fish, while its design allows for long, sweeping cuts when removing fillets. Although the knife was designed with larger species like tuna, I’ve been putting it through its paces on various inshore catches over the past several seasons and have found it to be a versatile addition to my cleaning routine.
I also appreciate the textured True Grit handle, which provides a secure gripping surface when hands become wet or slippery during the cleaning process. The knife features the company’s SlickCut anti-friction treatment, designed to reduce resistance as the blade passes through fish.
After several years of use, the Relentless 9-inch Curved Fillet Knife continues to impress me with its lightweight design, corrosion resistance and cutting capabilities. From that first introduction at ICAST to countless fish-cleaning sessions since, it’s proven to be a dependable tool that I’m happy to keep reaching for.
