Product Review: Suzuki 250ATSS V6 Outboard

Back in March of this year, Suzuki unveiled its new-for-2022 DF250ATSS V6 four-stroke outboard, which is the new flagship of their “SS” Sport Series of high-performance motors that includes 200, 150 and 115HP models. She’s engineered to deliver extra kick for today’s performance-based craft like those on the freshwater bass circuit, saltwater bay and flats boats, plus other inshore applications.

Using Suzuki’s proven 4.0L, 55-degree, four-stroke V-6 powerhead as its base, this SS version has been remapped to give operators powerful hole shots, strong mid-range push at the prop, with exhilarating top-end speeds, all while getting great fuel economy at normal cruising speeds.

The NEW DF250ATSS is the first SS Series outboard to feature compatibility with Suzuki’s state-of-the-art Suzuki Precision Control (SPC) electronic shift and throttle system that will integrate with the Suzuki’s Digital Pro-Pedal Foot Throttle. In addition to Suzuki’s SPC integration, the new DF250ATSS features a new lower unit gear case with an asymmetrically designed skeg that’s engineered to slice through the water more efficiently for improved performance, while providing enhanced steering stability. Inside this streamlined case, powerful 2.08:1 gears will deliver plenty of low-end torque and the ability to swing a larger propeller. Other notable standard features include multi point sequential electronic fuel injection; variable valve timing; a two-stage gear reduction system with offset driveshaft; 54-amp alternator; and a freshwater flushing system. This new 250SS tips the scales at a beefy 637 pounds net weight in the 25-inch shaft version and requires 91-octane fuel to release all of her sea horses at the peak of her 5300- to 6300-rpm operating range.

The new DF250ATSS also includes a new revised cowling design that features additional louvers, upper cover grips and new updated “SS” graphics. This newbie’s color scheme is offered in either Matte Black or Suzuki’s optional New White. It is available in 20-inch (L) and 25-inch (XL) shaft lengths to accommodate different boat styles.
