Safety Improvements To Edwards Avenue Dam

In August, DEC Region One Operations staff installed a rail at the top of Edwards Avenue Dam. The railing, attached to the top of the dam, is a highly visible and a physical barrier that increases canoeist and kayaker safety at the site.

In 2016, DEC completed the restoration of the Edwards Avenue Dam. With New York Works funding, restoration cost approximately $967,500. The construction project replaced a failing concrete dam with a new concrete structure and steel sheeting spillway. A fish ladder and a canoe/kayak launch site were also installed as part of this project.
