The Saltwater Underground 2022 4th Annual Barrier Island Beach Brawl surf fishing tournament will kick off again Friday, October 7 and runs through Saturday the 8th Based out of Playa Bowls and Crabs Claw Inn in Lavallette, the surfcasters only contest is dedicated to the memories of surf legends Mike Malek and Ronny Bala and runs from the south side of the Manasquan Inlet jetty to the north jetty at Barnegat Inlet.
“Last year the tournament dished out over $25,000 in free fishing gear door prizes and cash prizes,” said Barrier Island Beach Brawl organizer Nick Honachefsky, who added “The real prize was that the tourney donated 60 pounds of fresh fish fillets to charity to feed the homeless and hungry and raised nearly $2,000 for St. Jude charities.”
Honachefsky said there are more than 15 eligible species in play for cash prizes, with eight cash prize payouts and one “mystery fish” jackpot. “Everybody goes home with something,” Honachefsky said, noting that 4th Annual Barrier Island Beach Brawl is a surf tournament is fun for all families and friends.
