Although we mentioned that there was a mako moratorium for the 2024 season in the recent “Getting Ready for the Season” piece in the March edition of The Fisherman, the NOAA Shark I/D chart that we displayed was issued in 2019 and indicated size and retention limits for the year that it was printed.
Although the shark I/D chart is great for helping you identify some of these pelagic warriors that venture into our local waters, we repeat that for the 2024 season, shortfin mako sharks cannot be retained and must be released unharmed if caught.
