SIMMS PERFORMANCE GEAR - The Fisherman

SIMMS PERFORMANCE GEAR

The SIMMS name has been associated with high quality fishing gear for nearly four decades. John Simms launched SIMMS in 1980 and within a short time, SIMMS waders were well established as one of the most rugged and dependable waders available to anglers. Since then, the quality of SIMMS waders, as well as tops, wading shoes and other fishing related clothing and accessories, has continued to improve. There is much to be said for the age old axiom “you get what you pay for,” and that certainly holds true for the SIMMS growing lineup of performance fishing gear. Their policy on waders for example includes a “no questions asked” replacement for any leaks within 60 days. If they leak after the 60 days and within 365 days, they will repair them at no cost.

This October, Simms launched the all new G4Z (shown) and G4 Pro Stockfoot Waders, the most durable and technologically advanced waders the company has ever released. Both waders are powered by an all new proprietary GORE-TEX® Pro Shell fabric, 4-layers in the legs and seat for durability, and 3-layers in the upper portion of the wader for added breathability. They also include a brand-new revolutionary compression molded stockingfoot that greatly enhances boot fit and circulation like never before. The G4Z and G4 Pro MSRP at $849.95 and $749.95 respectively.

SIMMS G3 waders are available in both stocking foot and boot foot models. They feature a durable, breathable and comfortable GORE-TEX® Pro Shell 3-layer upper and 4-layer lower, a top access zippered stretch pocket, zippered, reach-through micro-fleece lined hand-warming pockets, and patented front and back leg seams for comfortable fit, improved mobility and increased durability. On the G3 Guide Boot Foot model, the boot is constructed of triple-layer vulcanized rubber for maximum durability and wading performance in extreme weather. It is also fully-lined and insulated with 7-mm neoprene and grid fleece for all-day warmth and moisture-management. The Vibram® ldrogrip rubber sole features self-cleaning lugs and multidirectional edges for maximum underwater traction with an anatomically-shaped and removable Right Angle® footbed for a secure and comfortable feel underfoot. MSRP on the boot foot is $749.95. The stocking foot model in the G3 series also features patented abrasion-resistant built-in Gravel Guards with boot hooks, and anatomically engineered neoprene stocking feet with anti-microbial finish. It retails for about $549.95.

New this year is the Women’s G3 Guide Z Stocking Foot Waders. They feature an innovative TIZIP waterproof side zipper for easy on/off, a reach-through fleece-lined hand warmer pocket with zippered top stash pocket, patented front & back leg seam and patented built-in Gravel Guards. Updated women’s features include dual fit suspender anchor points, scalloped top opening, and women’s specific fit. They carry an MSRP of $649.95.

If the G3 and G4 waders are hard on your budget, there are less expensive models that are a good value for the price. Both are available in stocking foot only. The Freestone Wader is priced at $279, while the Z (zippered model) comes in at around $379. Tributary and Soul River stocking foot models retail at $179.
