I’ve been hacked! One of my biggest “secrets” for recycling older SPRO jigs has now been brought to the marketplace. I had been giving new life to hairless SPRO jigs for years by gluing mini squid skirts to the jigs and putting them back into service for fluke, bass, blues, weakfish, football tunas and mahis with excellent results. Now you can do it too without any of the hassle.
SPRO has just introduced its new Squid Tail jig for the 2014 fishing season. Based on SPRO’s popular fish-catching Bucktail Jig design, the Squid Tail body is made of silicone material that imparts a lifelike swimming action to this jig. The Squid Tail can be fished as is, or anglers can add a trailer for scent or more action. The Squid Tail will be offered in five sizes, specifically ½-oz, ¾-oz, 1-oz, 2-oz and 3-oz. I’ve had my best luck offshore using the standard 1-oz Squid Tail with a white head and light skirt color and it casts like a bullet, even into the wind. The heavier 2-oz and 3-oz sizes are perfect for jigging fluke around deepwater ocean reefs and wrecks.
The SPRO Squid Tail will come in four of SPRO’s top fish-catching jig colors. For more information on the full SPRO lineup of products, visit them on their website.
