Surfland’s Demo Day Date Changed To May 9

Surfland Bait & Tackle, a mainstay in the Northeast surfcasting community, has announced a date change for its highly anticipated Surfcasting Demo Day. The event, originally scheduled for May 16, will now take place on Saturday, May 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This gathering of the surfcasters is designed for anglers of all skill levels to get hands-on experience with the finest gear in the industry before the heart of the spring run.

Sponsored by industry giants St. Croix Rods and Penn Reels, the Demo Day offers a unique, interactive experience that goes far beyond a standard retail visit. Understanding that the “perfect” surfcasting setup is subjective and depends entirely on an individual’s mechanics and power, Surfland has partnered with brand representatives to provide a full “test drive” environment.

Attendees will have the opportunity to step out and cast a wide variety of high-performance surf rods and reels at the beach just a few steps from their parking lot! By field-testing these different setups in a “real-surf” setting, fishermen can get a true feel for the action and power of the rod and how it matches their reel, allowing each caster to match a surf combo to their casting style and ensuring that they can buy with confidence. Whether you are looking to reach out to distant sandbars or if you need a versatile setup for working the rocks, this event is the best way to guarantee your next investment is the right one.

But it’s not just about the opportunity to test surfcasting gear, attendees will also enjoy:

  • Industry Experts: Factory representatives from St. Croix, Van Staal and Penn will be on-site to answer technical questions and provide professional advice on gear maintenance and selection.
  • Join The Plum Island Surfcasters: Meet with expert members of the club who will be happy to assist you in making informed choices in the shop and you can also join the club at the show.
  • In-Store Specials: Surfland will offer exclusive event-only deals on a wide range of tackle and accessories.
  • Free Swag: Early attendees can take advantage of giveaways and promotional items from the event sponsors.
  • Meet With MassWildlife: Representatives from MassWildlife will be on hand to answer questions about current regulations and projects they are working on across the state.
  • Renew Your Fisherman Subscription: Take advantage of your last chance for 2026 to take home a FREE pair Danco Pliers for the simple act of renewing your subscription to The Fisherman Magazine.

The event is free and open to the public and will be held at Surfland Bait and Tackle, 30 Plum Island Blvd., Newbury, MA. Anglers are encouraged to arrive early to make the most of the testing window and the in-store specials.

Located on Plum Island, Surfland Bait & Tackle has served the New England fishing community for decades, providing expert local knowledge, premium tackle, and a deep passion for the sport of surfcasting.
