WATER WOLF HD UNDERWATER VIDEO CAMERA - The Fisherman

WATER WOLF HD UNDERWATER VIDEO CAMERA

As fishermen we all have a story to tell, but until now we’ve been unable to truly capture the very moment the fishing story begins – that moment when you attract a fish to your bait and it strikes. With the Water Wolf, a camera designed specifically for fishing, you can capture the most exciting part of the story, which is what happens below the surface of the water.

The Water Wolf camera is unique in that it actually attaches to your fishing line just above your bait or lure. It can be trolled, drifted, cast, anywhere from the bottom to the surface. It’s designed to stay steady and not wobble when retrieved so your footage is reasonably stable. Plus with 720p HD video resolution and low light capabilities, images are crystal clear. It uses a rechargeable Li-On battery that can record up to four hours of footage without recharging.

I had a chance to put this camera to work last season while drifting for fluke on Long Island Sound. Set up was easy. It’s rigged inline, just a few feet above your bait or lure, and there is a unique system for fastening the camera to your running line. The cylindrical shape is hydro-dynamic so it has minimal effect on the presentation of your lure. In our case, as you’ll learn in a moment and can see by the footage at TheFisherman.com, we had no problem attracting fluke while drifting bottom in a strong current with the Water Wolf. Though we were fishing in 15 to 20 feet of water, the Water Wolf can be submerged up to 100 meters deep, which should be great for capturing footage of all kinds of gamefish. Once rigged, you simply turn the camera on and start fishing as you normally would.

After a good day of fluke fishing it was time to load the footage from the Water Wolf’s Micro SD Card to a computer. What happened next amazed me. First of all, the clarity of the water and the sharpness of the footage were much better than I expected. Actually, the clarity of the water at the bottom of the Sound that day was impressive. The wide angle lens minimizes camera movement and yielded solid image quality. Then came the fish – lots of fish. Though we did quite well catching short fluke and sea robins, we witnessed many more times the number of fish chasing our baits than we thought were in the area. At times there were as many as six fish in the frame pursuing our bait. It was extremely entertaining to watch fluke and sea robins aggressively compete for our bait. These fish were hamming it up! What was eye opening however was that we had no idea there was so much activity below us. It was only when we viewed the footage that we made the surprising discovery. For that reason alone, I have to say that the Water Wolf is perhaps one of the best learning tools for anglers. To see how they attack, learn how they short strike, to see what kind of bottom they concentrate on and how likely they are to come back after a bait when they come unhooked, are just a few lessons we gained that day. Witnessing how fish behave as they strike has got to be one of the most exciting ways to tell a fishing story. It also results in you being a better angler. It’s great fun as well as a valuable learning tool. And, if you’re into making fishing movies, the Water Wolf will surely captivate your audience.
