Bergen Bay Docks is hosting a pair of tournaments out of its West Babylon location that will run concurrently this weekend. Offshore anglers can participate in their 2nd Annual Peter R. “Doc” Scelfo Memorial Shark Tournament this Saturday, October 12, with a weather date of Sunday, October 13. Only makos and threshers are eligible for weigh-in. Fall sharking has been heating up the past couple of weeks so this event should be well-timed. Some of the biggest makos of the season are often taken in October. The entry fee is $300 per boat. There are prizes for the largest mako, largest thresher, largest overall shark and largest bluefish, with optional Calcuttas available.
Bergen Bay Docks 4th Annual Striped Bass Tournament will take place this Saturday and Sunday, October 12 and 13 with weigh-in from 1p.m. to 5 p.m. each day at Bergen Bay Docks. Weigh-in for Saturday night fishing is from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Sunday. The entry fee is $225 per boat. First prize is worth 60 percent of the purse and the second place winner gets 40 percent. There are optional Calcuttas available for largest bass Saturday day; largest bass Saturday night; largest bass overall and largest bluefish overall. Refreshments will be provided to all participants.
A captains meeting for both events will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, October 11 at Bergen Bay Docks, 605 Bergen Avenue, West Babylon, NY 11704. There will be a raffle, a 50/50, complimentary beer, soda, food and entertainment. Call 631-539-4136 for more info.
