“It’s really surprising how quickly the effects of the most recent rains can dissipate,” said Justin over at Allens Dock on Bass River. Justin had a short report for us when he said the only two reports he got this past week were of some bass and pickerel being caught in the campground lakes and ponds and a few pickerel still being caught in the near by cedar waters on killies.

There are plenty of flounder around according to Justin with Allen’s Dock. The bay water temperatures warmed up a bit and the bite is also heating up. Gulp, minnows, spearing and strip baits are all working on fish to 24 inches, along with plenty of short action for everyone. Stripers are still being caught in the river with fish in the slot range and also bonus tag fish caught this week. The river is also seeing the white perch return to their summer haunts and are being caught on bloodworms and grass shrimp.

From Allen’s Dock on Bass River comes word of some decent bass and pickerel fishing in most of the campground lakes and ponds which are now open for the season. Justin said it said it also pushed perch and other sweetwater fish a little farther down in the streams. Pickerel in the near has perked up on livelined minnows in the cedar waters which also saw a little water added to their levels.

Flounder action improved this week with slightly warmer water temps according to Justin with Allen’s Dock. Fish to 25 inches were reported with live minnows getting the job done. Early in the week there were a couple of beautiful weather windows which saw light winds and a dead calm bay. Anglers who got to fish this “unicorn” said the flounder cooperated and they were able to put together a quick two-man limit of fish to 21 inches.
