Atlantic Highlands Municipal Harbor

Boats taking advantage of the nice weather sailing out of the Atlantic Highlands Municipal Harbor caught some fish this past week. Lou Fligor told us that a good amount of boats slid down the ramp on Saturday. He said weather reports and occasional storms cut into the people fishing most of the week. On the fish front fluke catches were a lot of shorts and a fair amount of keepers. Outside bluefish and bonito supplied some good action and bottom fishing was a mix of sea bass, tog, triggerfish, croakers and some ling.

“Most of the first half of the year we saw up and down numbers of boats fishing out of the Harbor,” said Lou Fligor of the Atlantic Highlands Municipal Harbor. August on the other hand saw several of the busiest days the boat ramp had so far this year he said, noting how the forecasts of nasty erratic storms has been scaring anglers away, more so then the storms themselves. Take the weekend of August 22, after being mobbed the weekend before a forecast of storms. Saturday only saw a handful of boats slide down the ramp. Those that did fish were cleaning fish at the cleaning station when they came back in. “Hopefully we will have better forecasts in September,” he said.
