Bayonne Bait and Tackle

It’s still prime time for striped bass according to Chris out at Bayonne Bait and Tackle. He told me this past week saw some explosive fishing as the stripers were hitting Needlefish, surface swimmers and other topwater baits, as well as SP Minnows, Bombers and other swimming plugs and jig-shad combinations. When it comes to baits big bloodworms, Blood Balls and cut bunker where at the top of the list. On the fluke fishing front the back bay had fish but most of them were sub-legals, most of the keepers were taken from the shallow waters around Keansburg and the lower side of the bay, mainly on the outgoing water, he said. Lastly he told us some anglers we also looking forward to the sea bass fishing opening up this coming Friday.

We started off this week’s report with a call to Chris at Bayonne Bait and Tackle who told us anglers fishing the Bayonne area had a good week of striped bass fishing and it got better as the week progressed. It looks like with full moon brought plenty of mixed size bass with it, he said. It doesn’t make a difference what you throw at the bass they were on a good feed as of the weekend. He also mentioned that some bluefish have been chopping in the schools of bass and several anglers had cut-offs. Cut and fresh bunker, bloodworms and worm balls have been the top baits and SP Minnows, Yo-Zuri and Bomber plugs and shads have been the top artificials, Chris said.
