Belsan’s Bait and Tackle

Seamus from Belsan’s Bait reported striper fishing remains excellent along all the inshore spots including the North River and river mouth. Several jumbo-sized stripers were recently reported that that were taken off of Cohasset shoreline. There have been no substantial reports of bluefish yet but all the beaches, cliffs and offshore ledges have been producing outstanding catches of stripers of all sizes. Mackerel fishing remains very strong from the SA buoy to about three miles offshore. Large schools of pogies are also roaming the inshore waters from the South Shore to the North Shore. Flounder fishing has definitely slowed but the offshore action for haddock, tuna and sharks has been very good.

Seamus from Belsan’s Bait reported massive schools of pogies have moved into the area, which are making local fishing very interesting. Striper fishing remains excellent but bluefish have been very scarce. Mackerel fishing has definitely improved at the SA buoy, flounder are being caught in the harbor and a few fluke are being landed at the mouth of the North River. Egypt Beach, Sand Hill and the Fourth Cliff have been producing impressive catches of striped bass. Fishing the Third Cliff has been difficult due to all the lobster traps in that area. The hot artificial lure has been a pink soft jerk bait. Live and chunk mackerel have are also always effective as well as live or cut pogy. Anglers fishing the evening tides have been preferring live eels. There has also been good action in deeper water off of Smith’s, Minot and Thieves Ledges. With the abundance of bait that is present it is only a matter of time before large schools bluefish invade the south shore.
