Belsan’s Bait and Tackle

Pete from Belsan’s Bait and Tackle told the striper fishing in the North River and the Scituate area is off to one of the best starts he has seen in years. There are plenty of schoolies with plenty of keepers in the mix. Most of the fish are between 24 and 31 inches. There have also been some bigger stripers caught on some of the outside ledges and along the beaches from Scituate to Cohasset. There is some decent flounder activity inside the harbor and the early reports have been very good. Haddock fishing on Stellwagen has been a little slow but southern Jeffrey’s Ledge has been good. Pete has also heard a few reports of tautog along the inshore rockpiles. The store is open seven days a week.

Matt from Belsan’s Bait and Tackle told me there have been quite a few stripers caught in the North River this week with many of them in or over the slot size. Most of the fish however are still mostly schoolies. Plymouth has enjoyed a great early run of stripers including a report of a 42-inch fish caught of Manomet Beach. Flounder reports have been scarce but they will start to bite in Scituate Harbor as soon as the water temperature increases a few degrees. Haddock fishing has been excellent with most anglers, including Jackson from the store, easily catching their limits on Southern Jeffrey’s, Stone Ledge and Stellwagen Bank. Fresh water fishing for trout, bass and pickerel in the local ponds has been excellent. The store is open seven days a week.
