A few nice flounder were caught this week according to Dave at Big Dave’s Tackle, including several just over 5 pounds, but the focus of many of his customers is still on the striper bite along the Delaware Bay. Again this week, from Salem down to Cape May County, the Delaware produced some monster stripers on bloodworms, bloodworm balls and fresh clams. Fish to 46 inches were caught along with some drumfish in the 25- to 30-inch size range. In Delaware Bay, the drum bite is starting to get going with customers reporting drum to 40 pounds on clam baits. The back bays have been producing some gator blues and a few weakfish as a bycatch for flounder anglers.

The outstanding striper bite from Cape May to Salem County continued this week according to Dave at Big Dave’s Tackle. Baits have been a mix of bloodworms, bloodworm bag combos (Vamp Bites and live bloodworm tied in a spawn net) and fresh clam, plus artificials like glide baits and soft plastics. Fish to 46 inches were reported along with plenty of slot size keepers, plus a few short fish. Evening and early morning moving tides continue to provide the best bite and the drumfish have become even more active for anglers fishing clam baits from the bayshore beaches of Cape May County. Corson’s Inlet saw a nice blue caught, which should be the first of many this season with all baitfish filtering into our inlets. Big Dave is ready for flounder season with live minnows and anything else you could possibly need for flatfish. Anglers report plenty of flounder being caught already as a by-catch in the back bays.
