Greg Hueth from the Big Mohawk III said they sailed one day last week but the tautog action wasn’t very good. He was at a fisheries meeting in New England when I called him on Monday morning, noting that if things change he’ll give us at shout.

Greg from the Big Mohawk III said the month of freezing cold weather has really taken its toll on the tautog bite. “Out by the Shark River Reef and it already feels like February tautog fishing already,” he said. He had a decent enough weather day on Sunday with a light crowd, bouncing around a few different drops from 100 to 120 feet and picked at a few fish. “Could have used some more keepers,” Greg said, reporting short life and picky scratchy bites with a few keepers from 3 to 7 pounds, but overall it’s pretty slow with water temps really plummeting. “I’m going to try through this week, but we’ll see,” he said as far as future sailing schedule. The crew took a pass on Monday, and plan to give it a shot again on Tuesday and Thursday this week sailing 6:30 a.m.
