Chris at Blue Water Ventures in Southold reported he had a few customers come in looking to tog fish but he didn’t hear back from them. He’s been staying busy at the shop with rod and reel repairs. This is the time to drop your gear off to get tuned up for next season.

Chris at Blue Water Ventures in Southold said small bass are still all over the beach on the North Fork hitting small bucktails and soft plastics. Chris got out himself for some blackfish action off the shore and nailed a keeper before he went home. The shop will be open selling tying materials for those looking to keep busy during the slow months.

Chris at Blue Water Ventures in Southold heard from customers of a lot of small bass spread along North Fork beaches from Kennys Beach and Hortons Point out to Trumans and Orient Point. Diamond jigs, small bucktails and poppers are taking the fish. Still a few tog from shore but it is not what it was earlier this fall, as dropping water temps have moved most of the tog to deeper water.

We were unable to reach Chris at Blue Water Ventures in Southold but have heard second hand of small stripers scattered along Southold Town beaches all the way to Orient. Strict residency parking requirements have discouraged many casters from even working these beaches this fall.

Chris at Blue Water Ventures in Southold said there have been decent numbers of school bass along the Sound from Trumans to Orient Point, but he also heard of fish caught at Kennys and McCabes beaches. A17 and 007 diamond jigs with tubes remain the mainstay, with epoxy jigs also accounting for some fish. Blackfish remain an option on the North Fork for those working jigs tipped with green crab.

Chris at Blue Water Ventures in Southold said schoolie stripers are spread along local Sound beaches like Kennys, McCabes, Hortons and Trumans taking bucktails, poppers, 007 jigs with tubes, and soft plastics during the day, and swimming plugs at night. Blackfishing remains very good along most rocky shorelines for those using jigs or bait rigs and green crabs.

Blackfishing has been very good along most rocky shorelines.

Chris at Blue Water Ventures in Southold said there has been some good bass action along Southold’s Sound beaches on bucktails and topwaters, and swimming plugs at night. Some blues are along the bay side, but none this week on the Sound side. Some albies around but they have been very fussy. They were along Trumans for two hours one day during the week, but only three were caught. Blackfishing has been solid wherever there are rocks.

Chris at Blue Water Ventures in Southold said there was some solid action with bass, big blues and albies along local Southold beaches and places like Hortons, Trumans and Orient at the end of the week following Wednesday night’s and Thursday’s blow. Super strike Poppers have been flying off the wall, while epoxy jigs have been doing it for the albies.

Chris at Blue Water Ventures in Southold said there are some small blues roaming along Sound beaches from Kenny’s Beach to Orient. Some bass, including slot size fish, are on the points between dusk and dawn along the same stretch taking pencil poppers and swimming plugs. Small bass are inside local creeks on the bay side.

Chris at Blue Water Ventures in Southold said there have been shots of mostly small blues along Sound beaches from Southold to Orient with a few bigger choppers to the east. Bass from shorts to slot size fish are being picked around sunset and at night on poppers and swimming plugs. Some small bass also inside the local creeks on the bay side.

Chris at Blue Water Ventures in Southold reported school bass and sporadic action with blues along Southold Town beaches with the better action around sunset. Some slot size bass were reported from McCabes Beach on topwater plugs. There was very good porgy action on the weekend despite the east winds.

Chris at Blue Water Ventures in Southold reported area beaches coming to life with bass and blues early and late in the day, with an increase in the number of slot bass. Topwater plugs have been effective on the bass. Bait fishermen are catching good numbers of porgies and some sea bass, with the better fishing to the east.

Chris at Blue Water Ventures in Southold reported a few blues in the 4 to 8-pound range along Sound beaches on epoxy jigs, Deadly Dicks and other small tins. He heard of a few schoolies picked at places like Trumans, Goldsmiths and Orient but no numbers. One customer had a bonito and there have been some Spanish mackerel reported.

Chris at Blue Water Ventures in Southold reported albies and Spanish mackerel at Goldsmiths Inlet on Streak Epoxy Jigs. Quite a few cocktail blues roaming North Fork beaches with a few school bass mixed among them, especially at dawn.

Chris at Blue Water Ventures in Southold reported a decent shot of bluefish action at Orient this past week, including some fish into the teens taken at dusk on pencil poppers and after dark on bottle plugs. Porgies are along both sides of the North Fork taking clams and worms. Chris checked in weakfish to 33 inches Sunday morning that came from the bay side of the North Fork.
