The Townsend Inlet surf beaches have been smokin’ with fluke action according to Cam down in Sea Isle at Boulevard Bait and Tackle. Bucktail and Gulp combos or squid/minnie combos are working to pull on flatfish from 18 inches up to 5 pounds and more. Work the moving tides with a sweep to score with the flatfish. Out front, kingfish, croakers and spot are picking away at baits.

There is a decent flounder bite taking place right from the inlet surf on bucktails and Gulp according to this week’s report from Boulevard Bait and Tackle. Keeper size fish seem to have moved to the inlet and oceanfront beaches this week. Back bay is absolutely loaded with short fish, dozens per trip, but keepers have been ghosting many anglers. The back bay is seeing lots of croaker action, plus some good size bluefish to 4- pounds being caught as a bycatch by flounder anglers. Kingfish have recently made a strong showing, both in good numbers and quality size fish. Catches have been mostly in the inlet on the incoming tides on bloodworms and Fishbites.

Things are happening down in Sea Isle City according to the crew at Boulevard Bait and Tackle as Cam stated triggerfish have amassed off the rocks and kingfish pushed into the local suds and at Strathmere. Fluke fishing is also picking up big time as the jetty and pier gave up fish to 5 pounds plus this week. Sand fleas are great baits for all those species.

Plenty of flounder in the bay according to Cameron with Boulevard Bait and Tackle. He tells us that you really have to be patient and pick through the shorts in order to find a few keeper fish. The keepers are being found on the incoming tide with minnows and strip baits producing fish to 5 pounds. The offshore flounder bite has been even better, with a higher keeper ratio at the TI Inlet. Salmon bellies and larger Gulp fished on bucktails put flatties to 7- pounds in the box this week.
