Canal Bait and Tackle

The report from Canal Bait & Tackle hadn’t changed much from last week, local freshwater guys are waiting for a thaw or a cold snap to push the ice in the safe or disappearing direction. It looks like they might get their wish as a cold snap awaits this week. Other than that, it’s been a few reports on the warmer days coming from the east end of the Ditch where mackerel can be caught on weighted Sabiki rigs.

The report from Canal Bait & Tackle basically left freshwater anglers in a holding pattern while they waited for the skim ice to clear or for another cold snap to firm thing back up. The only real reports of any kind coming back to the shop have been about mackerel down at Sandwich Marina, the fish aren’t as thick as they were a month ago, but they’re still biting.

The report from Canal Bait & Tackle told of smaller ponds having some safe ice and bigger ponds having just enough ice for some of the ice maniacs to deem ‘good enough’. Ice results have been predictably good, with perch and pickerel leading the way, followed by largemouth bass and trout. Not much news from the Canal this week.
