On the Capt. Gillen, we heard that their first trip of the 2024 fluke season will be at 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 4. To start the season, they will be sailing at 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, and at 11 a.m. Monday through Friday. The full schedule will be posted on their website shortly. As always, families and novices are welcome. Rod, reel, bait, tackle included in fare. Reduced fares for seniors, veterans, first responders, and children. The family operated Captain Gillen is a well known and respected member of the Captree Fishing Fleet, specializing in early morning trips for dedicated fishing fanatics. Although they cater to seasoned fishermen, family friendly daytime trips are also offered which are great for first timers. The Captain Gillen is staffed by experienced, knowledgeable, and courteous captains and crew excited to show you, your family and friends exciting fishing in the Great South Bay, Fire Island Inlet, or Atlantic Ocean from April through November. They fish in-season for flounder, fluke, striped bass, bluefish, weakfish, sea bass, blackfish and porgies. For your comfort and convenience, the Captain Gillen offers a wide range of snacks and beverages via well stocked vending machines, complimentary coffee, and has amenities and services consisting of clean and separate restrooms, a heated cabin, and free rods, reels, bait, and fish cleaning. As will any top notch fishing boat, The Capt. Gillen is equipped with the latest marine electronics and safety equipment, crewed by a courteous and knowledgeable team, and licensed to carry up to 125 passengers. Located on the right side of the Captree dock, the Captain Gillen is easily spotted by her red and gold trim. Docked next to her is her sister charter boat, the Captree Star III. The Gillen family has been involved in fishing at Captree State Park since 1955 and the Captain Gillen continues the family tradition of Captree fishing at it’s very best.
