Brenden from Captree Bait and Tackle checked in saying mackerel, bunker ( If you can find it) and small jigs have been the way to get those nice slot bass and blues which are still feeding on local butterfish and adult bunker. He said to keep your eyes and heading inside the inlets, bays and canals – plenty of Fish around just got to get out there. Also, plenty of plugs on the shops $10 special topwater plug wall. Stop by to grab a few before they run out. They’ve been hearing bucktails tipped with squid strips have been hitting fluke hard on the incoming tide up to 6 pounds from the dock. Gulp has also been working out but watch out for those blowfish!

Brenden at Captree Bait and Tackle Shop on Captree Island reported that mackerel, bunker and small jigs have been the way to get slot bass and blues which are still feeding on local butterfish and adult bunker. There are plenty of fish around so head out now. Brenden heard bucktails tipped with squid strips have been accounting for fluke on the incoming tide, with fish to 6 pounds. Although mid-week kept most anglers at the dock, the few that went out got some nice action in the local channel holes. Gulp has also been working out but watch out for those blowfish!

Brenden from Captree Bait and Tackle checked in saying they’ve been getting weakfish weighed in at the shop up to 5 pounds over the weekend from the dock by the store. Bluefish to 6 pounds have also been caught at the pier but they did know of some larger ones on the sand beach by Cedar. Fluking has also been hot at the docks and shorelines inside the Fire Island Inlet. The police dock being another hot spot to take a look at. Bouncing a bucktail tipped with a spearing or Gulp Swimming Mullet has been the easier way to connect.

Brenden at Captree Bait and Tackle Shop on Captree Island reported 12 weakfish came into the shop this past weekend, so the weakfish bite has officially started. Bass and blues are still feeding on local butterfish, adult bunker and what seems to be rain bait. Bucktails and Danny plugs have been constantly producing bass to 27 pounds with dozens of fish in the 38 to 40-inch class. Shop Pro Will King says “Any popper style body will get mauled by Mr. Toothy.” Bass are hungry and competing with the blues. If you find yourself in the middle of a bluefish blitz like the one had on the Captree Pier, make sure to cast on the outside of the blitz to catch those large lazy bass! Topwater slow sinking plugs and plastics have been the ultimate way to catch!
